Blocking-DHT-in-the-Scalp

We lose hair every day. It’s considered within normal range to lose up to 200 hairs a day. Sometimes, however, you may be seeing more shedding of hair than usual, or even noticing spots where your scalp is noticeable. This can be distressing, but there are many reasons why you may be experiencing hair loss. These can include:

  • Illness
  • Recent fever
  • Certain medications
  • Stress
  • Scalp infections or fungus
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Childbirth
  • Hormonal changes
  • Poor nutrition, or restrictive dieting

Fortunately, most times this type of hair loss is temporary, and once the issue is resolved, your hair cycles will return to normal. However, a large percentage of both men and women will experience a different sort of hair loss, caused by an inherited condition called androgenetic alopecia. This condition, if left untreated, can result in permanent hair loss. Because a hormone derivative called dihydrotestosterone is implicated in androgenetic alopecia, the condition is also referred to as DHT hair loss, or more commonly, male-pattern or female-pattern baldness. Since DHT is a major cause, one of the goals of treatment is blocking DHT in the scalp.

What Is DHT?

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen hormone that’s formed when testosterone binds to an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. Individuals who have androgenetic alopecia appear to have inherited hair follicles that are particularly susceptible to the effects of DHT, which causes their follicles to shrink and impairs their function.

It’s a bit of a mystery as to why DHT affects some people more than others, but scientists do have a number of theories, such as perhaps some inherit follicles that contain more DHT receptors, or that additional DHT is being produced elsewhere in the body and arriving at the scalp through the bloodstream. In any case, effective treatment of androgenetic alopecia requires blocking or inhibiting the action of DHT, as well as stimulating damaged follicles in order to restart the body’s ability to grow healthy hair.

Natural, Science-based Treatments

For centuries, there were no effective treatments for male- or female-pattern baldness. The rise of hair transplants over the past fifty years gave people one way to combat the effects of the condition, although it was not available to a large percentage of patients. However, with the discovery of the role of DHT, new all-natural topical treatments have demonstrated their ability to reverse the effects of androgenetic alopecia and to restore health to hair follicles.

The leading treatment works in two different ways: to inhibit DHT, as well as to promote the health of the scalp and rehabilitate damaged hair follicles. This treatment system uses a three-fold approach:

  • Scalp cleansing and exfoliation to rid the area of DHT, toxins, and dead skin cells. This process also opens clogged pores, increases blood flow, and thickens the skin of the scalp.
  • Nourishing hair follicles and roots. Using proteins, peptides, vitamins, and antioxidants, nourishment is provided directly to the follicles, strengthening existing hair and working to reverse the effects of DHT.
  • Scalp roller. A vibrating LED device stimulates the scalp and promotes absorption of the formulas.

If you are experiencing hair loss due to male- or female-pattern balding, investigate the benefits of blocking DHT in the scalp as a natural topical treatment systems.
